Spring has been commissioned to reinstate the site of the original Spa. The town centre is in the process of substantial urban regeneration and the public art commission is the most demonstrative expression of the regeneration program.
The work’s title is a clue as to its intention. A single word with multiple meanings, all of which can be applied to the work. Firstly the spring of water that formed the original spa, secondly spring as re-birth of the earth reflected in the upward rhythm of the work and the crocus blue of its colour, and lastly the tightly wound knot of energy that is stored in a metal spring, a form with latent strength.
