transition

client: national power | size: 6 x 5.5 x 3 meters | site: dartford, kent | material: painted steel and copper | date: 1991

Transition was commissioned by National Power and South East Arts as a work to mark the move in status of the electricity board from a public utility to a private company.

Two dynamic forms are pitched at each other in a state of energetic excitement. Each form challenging and confirming the presence of the other. They are connected by a thread of copper that articulates the implied friction between the two parts. It is a work about the energy of change and the productive tension of the new.

The work is fabricated from steel and copper and sits at the entrance to National Power’s flagship power station in Dartford, Kent.
